How Cashvelope keeps your financial data private
Your money data belongs to you — here's exactly how we handle it.
Financial data is some of the most personal data that exists. Knowing what someone spends money on — and where — reveals a lot about how they live. We take that seriously.
Here's the short version: by default, your data never leaves your device. Here's what that means in practice.
No account required
You can download Cashvelope and use it fully — create budgets, log transactions, view reports — without creating an account or giving us your email address. There's nothing to sign up for, nothing to verify.
Every transaction you log is written to local storage on your phone. We don't have a server that receives it. We don't see it. It doesn't leave your device.
What happens when you sign in
We added an optional sign-in feature for one purpose: backup and sync. If you want your data available on two devices (say, a phone and a tablet), you can sign in and enable sync. In that case, your data is encrypted and uploaded to our servers solely to be passed to your other device.
We don't use that data for advertising. We don't sell it. We don't analyse spending patterns across users. It exists to solve one problem — keeping your devices in sync — and nothing else.
No third-party analytics on your transactions
A lot of apps embed analytics SDKs that silently send behavioural data to third parties. Cashvelope doesn't do this with financial data. The transactions you log stay on your device (or your sync account if you've enabled it) and go nowhere else.
Export your data any time
You own your data. In Settings, you can export everything as a CSV file — your full transaction history, categories, and account balances. You can open it in any spreadsheet app, import it elsewhere, or just keep a backup locally.
If you delete the app, your local data goes with it. If you want to remove synced data from our servers, delete your account from within the app and it's gone.
The bottom line
We built Cashvelope as a tool, not a data business. The app makes money by being useful, not by monetising what you log in it. Your grocery and dining totals are yours — we have no interest in them beyond making the app work well for you.
If you have questions about how your data is handled, the privacy policy has the full details, or reach out directly.
