What’s new in Daykept
How Daykept has grown, month by month — from a simple journal to templates, a mood calendar, throwbacks and a timeline of your whole journey.
September 2026
1.7 — Look back on your whole journey (coming soon)
- Notebook Timeline — see a notebook as one continuous journey, jump to any month, and scroll back to the top in one tap. The list view stays exactly as it was. Premium · free during early access.
- Cycle tracking on your calendar — mark period days with one tap, right on the mood calendar. Once you have a couple of cycles, Report shows how your mood moves with your cycle (Premium · free during early access).
- Template gallery — 47 templates by theme: 14 free, including every template for hard emotions, and 33 more (Premium · free during early access).
- Background patterns — new patterns drawn by the app itself, crisp on every screen.
Removed: relax sounds, to keep Daykept focused on writing, and the photo backgrounds, which the new patterns replace.
1.6 — A new home, and sync you can trust
- Redesigned home with a cleaner bottom bar and one consistent "write" button everywhere.
- Weekly recap — a short look back at your week, plus a recap of your first week with Daykept.
- Share to Daykept — send photos and text from other apps straight into a new entry.
- Full-width photos in entries.
- Streaks in Report, with grace days so one missed day doesn't erase your progress.
- Your account — profile photo, name and password change; delete your account anytime.
- Sync, rebuilt — pauses and resumes with your connection, retries uploads safely, and keeps snapshots so you can restore an earlier state.
- New onboarding and a refreshed template gallery with featured picks in your language.

1.5 — Throwback: on this day
Your journal now looks back at you. Throwback shows what you wrote on this day in previous years — a small reason to keep writing today, because today becomes next year's memory.
- Throwback badge in More when there's something new to read
- Quicker access to options from the side menu
July 2026
1.4 — Home screen widget
- Widget — start an entry straight from your home screen and keep an eye on your streak. On Android and iOS.
- Pick your feeling while editing — change the mood of an entry without leaving the editor.
- Start from a prompt — open a new entry with the day's prompt already in place.
- Smoother notebook picker, and floating buttons that adapt to phones and tablets.

1.2 — Import from Day One, accounts & a smarter editor
- Import from Day One — bring your old journal with you: titles, text, tags and formatting.
- Daykept account (optional) — sign up to sync your journal across devices, with email verification and password reset. You can still write without one.
- Default template — pick a template that's applied to every new entry automatically.
- Agile & Work templates — stand-ups, retros and other team rituals.
- Writing prompts in empty entries, so you always have a place to start.
- Report — choose the period you want to look at.
- Editor — custom font size and weight, and a one-tap "clear formatting".
- Settings — choose the first day of your week, haptic feedback and your accent color.
- Reminders — journal reminder notifications, now in your language.
1.1 — A templates storefront
The template gallery now feels like browsing a curated shelf: a featured rail, quick filters and sticky search.
- Export and import your own templates as a file — back them up or share them with a friend
- Recently used templates, so your favourites are one tap away
- Older templates are upgraded in the background — nothing lost, nothing to do
April 2026
1.0 — Templates: write with structure
Never stare at a blank page again. Build a writing structure once — a gratitude check-in, a weekly review, a creative prompt — and reuse it forever.
- A template gallery organised by category
- Create your own templates with the full editor
- Tags and per-template settings
- Drag to reorder, archive the ones you don't use
Templates complete what Daykept set out to be: a journal that helps you write, not just stores text.
March 2026
0.8 — Period calendar
Cycle tracking arrived inside Daykept: mark period days with one tap, see your history across months, and jump from any date straight into writing about that day.
In 1.7 this became part of the main calendar — see September 2026.
0.7 — Your journaling, by the numbers
A Report page that shows your habits honestly, with no guilt attached.
- Writing frequency as a year-long heatmap
- Total entries and words
- Which tags you write about most
- Entries per month, to spot gaps and bursts
February 2026
0.6 — Search that actually works
Search was rebuilt on full-text indexing: instant, and it looks through everything you've written, not just titles.
- Combine text with year, month, tag, starred and more
- Tag chips in the filter panel
- Find every entry written from a given template
- Your last tag filter is remembered
Existing entries are re-indexed quietly in the background the first time you open search.
January 2026
0.5 — Voice journal
Sometimes words come faster out loud. Record voice notes right inside any entry — they sit alongside your writing, with a live waveform while you record and playback anywhere in the story.
0.4 — Notebooks
Group entries into notebooks — a travel journal, a work log, a private stream — and switch between them without friction. Give each notebook its own color so you can tell them apart at a glance. You never have to pick a notebook before writing: unassigned entries simply live in your main timeline.
0.2 — Tags, properly
- Colors for tags, so they stand out in the timeline
- As many tags per entry as you like
- A Tags page with entry counts and one-tap filtering
- Suggestions while you type, so you don't create duplicates
- Tag several entries at once
0.1 — Hello, world 🌱
Daykept is out on Google Play and the App Store: a calm journal with no ads and no account needed to start writing.
- Timeline journaling with a rich text editor and multi-page entries
- Tags and starred entries
- Dark and light themes — because some of us write at 2am
