Backup and sync in Cashvelope: restore points, cloud sync and exports

Months of entries, budgets and categories are worth protecting. Cashvelope gives you three layers: cloud sync if you want it, restore points to roll back, and full exports you keep yourself.

You don't need an account to start

Cashvelope works without signing in. Everything you enter stays on the device until you decide to turn on sync. If you never sign in, use the manual backups and exports below.

Cloud sync across your devices

Open Settings and find Cloud sync. Sign in with your email (create an account the first time and confirm it from your inbox). Your transactions, accounts, budgets and categories then sync across your iPhone, iPad and Android devices, and a new phone picks everything up when you sign in.

• Sync is free. Your data isn't locked behind Pro.
• Receipt photos stay on your device; backing them up to the cloud is Pro · free during early access.
• Your synced data and receipt photos are only accessible to your own account.
• Signing out keeps your data on the device; sync simply stops until you sign in again.

Sync is for one person's devices. One Cashvelope account per person keeps your budgets and numbers yours.

Restore points: roll back if something goes wrong

With sync on, Cashvelope saves a restore point (a snapshot of your data) before syncing, so you can go back if a sync doesn't turn out the way you expected. Open Settings → Backup & restore → Restore points to see them, tap Backup now to make one yourself, or restore an earlier one.

Without sync, automatic restore points don't run. Use Save a backup copy instead: a single file with everything (accounts, budgets, settings) that you can keep in your files or cloud drive and restore later.

Export to a spreadsheet

Under Spreadsheet data in Settings:

• Export to spreadsheet saves your transactions with dates, amounts, categories and notes as a CSV for taxes, your own records, or another app.
• Import from spreadsheet brings transactions in, with column mapping, a preset for Mint exports and duplicate detection.

Lock the app

Turn on Biometric lock in Settings to require Face ID or fingerprint when the app opens.

Deleting your account

You can delete your Cashvelope account from inside the app. It permanently removes the account and your synced data from the server; the data on your device stays.

A simple routine

• Using one phone and no account? Save a backup copy once a month, and before changing phones.
• Using sync? Check once that restore points appear, and export a spreadsheet at the end of each year.
